Film production for The Sun

For summer 2017, The Sun gave readers an exclusive chance to win two free tickets to SEA LIFE centres across the UK, and asked us to create an irreverent promotional TVC to give the offer the splash it deserved.

One of The Sun’s most attractive features is the partnerships, offers and exclusive getaways it gives to its readers; whether it be £9.50 hols or free entry to Alton Towers, they are always looking for ways to offer much more than just the daily scoop

The newspaper’s latest rewards platform, ‘Sun Savers’, gave readers an exclusive offer of 2 free tickets to SEA LIFE centres across the UK. To help achieve maximum audience reach, they asked us to create a TVC that bought the promotion to life

Working with senior creatives at their in-house agency, Pulse Creative, The Sun developed an amusing and lovable script, featuring a young and confident sister and her little brother. Excited by the concept, we set to work with our chosen Director, Dave Depares, planning the shoot.

We sourced and recced numerous London locations, tested paddling pools, and searched for the perfect costume designer to create our ‘homemade’ octopus outfit – as well as the many other props required for filming.

Our biggest challenge, however, was finding our two young stars. It was paramount that our talent had the perfect mix of childish charm, acting ability, and rosy-cheeked-cheekiness – in Sabrina Newton-Fisher and Stanley Warbrick, we found exactly that.

We were blessed with superb conditions for our outdoor film production and, despite the talent occasionally being a lot more interested in the inflatable props, than the camera in front of them (and who could blame them!) we wrapped with everything we needed in the can, and even had time for a few fun photos in the Octopus outfit.

Back in our studio, we worked closely with the lead creative at Pulse to create a final edit with the perfect balance of production value and childlike cues to make it seem ‘homemade’, without compromising the standard that our client expected of the finished TVC.
